So it seems this year Santa did not bring me a subscription to Canadian House and Home. Guess next time I should remember to ask.... oops.
Lucky for me their website is chock full of goodies I can peruse for free. They are always feature stylish, relatable interiors with a perfect mix of modern, bohemian and traditional pieces.
Today's post-Christmas joy was an article on classic chairs... or in their words "statement chairs that will never go out of style."
In the world we live in today- where we are trying to DO more with LESS, Waste LESS, and enjoy a few more nights on the couch (instead of going out)- it makes sense to choose furnishings that we will love for a long time. Cheap is not always best, and will usually end up in the dumpster. Quality, Style, Comfort and Price should influence how we adorn our homes. Plus some pieces just make us HAPPY. Chairs make me happy. Classic, beautiful chairs.
Not only did I enjoy CHH's choices, but I love the interiors that went along with them. Because its never Just about the Chair, its about how the chair relates to the whole space!
Here are my favorites, in no particular order. Check out their website for more chairs and the history behind them.

The Wishbone Chair By Hans Wenger. One of my favorite dining chairs ever.

Louis XVI Arm Chair. Personally I love this chair because it can be mixed with so many items and styles. Not just for traditionalists!

Cantilever Cane Chair by Mies Van der Rohe. Curvy, simple, textural, yum yum.

The Barcelona Chair by Mies Van der Rohe. Shown here in what looks to be brown suede? Personally I love them in white leather. I'm such a sucker for tufting and these chairs shows that tufting can be modern.

Arne Jacobsen Series 7 Chair. Simple, Clean, yet fun. By far the most accesible to us peons. Affordable look-a-likes available everywhere (West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Room and Board...)

I must say I was surprised to find a few chairs missing from their Classic Chair list.
So I added 5 chairs myself.
With no further ado, "Naomi's top 5 classic chairs not featured by Canadian House and Home"....

#1 Have you met Mr Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman? Super comfortable and iconic. It adds a little masculine feel to any space, so of course I like to balance it out with a delicate side table (like shown above).
Typically Shown in black or white leather, Personally I'd like to upholster one in olive green velvet. Let's not forget my fave: a Missoni-upholstered version from Gossip Girl.

#2 The Danish Arm Chair. It comes in many styles and varieties and I think they all add character and style to a room. This is a must-have for me in the next place. It is the perfect side chair; the cushions make it comfortable, and the small frame doesn't take up too much space. Plus every home needs a dash of mid-century decor, right?

#3 Louis Ghost Chair. Newer onto the chair scene, this see-thru wonder is already a classic in my book. I love that it is so versatile- looks great around a table, or as an accents in the living room, bedroom, office, even bath. Great for small spaces where you don't want to feel crowded with furniture.

#4 Marais A Chair, aka the Tolix Chair. I talked about this recently, so I wont ramble too long. I love the french cafe charm. Also note that metal + wood = dream combination of materials. Rustic, yet modern and quite a sexy shape. Looks good in white too, no?

#5 Faux Bamboo Chippendale Chair. Whether its the Jonathan Adler variety, or the real-deal vintage version, these chairs are everywhere. Why are they so popular? For me, I like that they are little-bit classic and a little bit modern. The cushion provides comfort, the back provides a neat geometric shape and the color options are endless! Great around a table or by a desk.

And finally, a honorable mention should go to the french Louis XVI style Porter's Chair. They are not as abundant as the aforementioned seating options, but they are definitely one of my favorites. So regal, yet whimsical. I'd love to have one in my bedroom one day. Of course I would surround it with modern furnishings so it would pop even more.

Great post! The Louis XVI Arm Chair is my fave of the bunch - especially when upholstered in a unique fabric. Also love the bamboo chair, the Porter chair and the ghost (especially love this one for a vanity/desk).
