Mismatched

We have been doing a lot of bathrooms lately!  If I had to analyze the economy based on my small microcosm, I would conclude that many people aren't quite ready to tackle big projects like kitchens and additions, but are itching to make smaller improvements.  The next best thing is the bath!

In preparation for design and construction I have been digging up lots of inspiration and will be sure to share some in upcoming weeks.  One of my favorite ways to add a little flavor to the bath is with mismatched mirrors.  Who says two sinks need identical mirrors?  I like the idea of each partner choosing a mirror that best suits their own style.  Good design = thinking outside the box plain medicine cabinet.

What do you think about this look?  Would you mix two decorative mirrors in the bath?

I like that last one--and I want to like them all--but I think it would bug me in my own house. I am a sad slave to symmetry! Sad.

Oooo, I've noticed this too. What a fun trend! But I think the space need to suit this. My home is just too teeny for too much clashing.

I love this idea!

I could definitely see it working in certain spaces but I don't think I could embrace it in my home. It's very chic, though!

yeah! I adore that first image - it's new to me - and of course, I love anna spiro's bath. love the look. donna

Call me overly conventional, but I think I'd need my mirrors to be matching, though the last image is pretty appealing.

I'm usually a symmetry fiend but that last space has me rethinking... Damn it, Anna Spiro! Gets me every time. Great post!

For the most part I think I'm too weirdly controlling to go asymmetric, although our last house had an odd lavatory setup that begged for a funky mirror combo. Guess it just depends on the space.

ps: somehow a bathroom reno seems waaay more daunting than a kitchen reno.

My aunt has a bunch of vintage hand mirrors hung up in her bathroom in a diamond shape. I always thought it was so cute. That pic reminded me of it. I think your assessment about bathrooms is true. Plus with the housing market I think more people are apt to improve what they have instead of moving to a different or bigger place as well!

FMl. I got a nice bathroom and a plain medicine cabinet. It was my husbands fault. That was his only condition.

I love this look. Some day when we finally gut the bathrooms I'll be trying this.

I have never considered this before. I think I like it best in the middle image, where the mirrors are similar styles but different shapes. But it is a really fun, eclectic look in the other rooms ... so, for the right project, I vote it's fab!

I would have never thought about this until seeing your images. I love symmetry, but this adds a fun aspect to the bathroom design...

As great as it looks, I just don't think I could do it!

Oh, I could do it. I'm the farthest thing from OCD you will ever find...I couldn't give a flying whit. Love the last picture! This is a major consideration for my son's/guest bath remodel, seems people might think I'm cool and quirky which is always fun to be.
